Know about Digital Signature



  • What is Digital Signature? 

A digital signature is an electronic rather than a written signature that can be used by someone to authenticate the documents or records.


  • Where will I obtain the Digital Signature Certificates from? 

Digital Signature Certificates are issued by all the licensed Certifying Authority. Certifying Authorities have the granted license to issue a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).


  • How long will it take to issue the DSC by the Certifying Authorities?

It may take three to seven days to issue a DSC by Certifying Authority.


  • What is the validity period of a Digital Signature Certificate? 

Digital Signature Certificates are issued with a validity period of one or two years.


  • Why is Digital Signature Certificate required?

Like the way how physical documents are signed manually, electronic records like e-forms are to  be signed digitally using a Digital Signature Certificate.


  • What is the difference between Digital Signature and Electronic Signature?

The digital signature is based on Public Key Infrastructure.  The digital signature cannot be copied, tampered or altered. On the other hand, an electronic signature is a proprietary format such as a digitized image of a handwritten signature, a symbol, etc., An electronic signature is vulnerable to copying and tampering.
